New exhibition! Nouvelle exposition!

I'm having a new show this month. It will run from July 1st to July 14th at the town hall of Crillon-Le-Brave (a very posh little village located a top of a hill near Bedoin).
The opening will take place on Friday the 6th at 18:30. I  be joined by a Danish artist, Annelise Deberdt whose works are abstract. I hope to see you all there!

When a cat is in nature...

...all sort of things can happen!
I had lots of fun creating this painting. It started like a close up of a watermelon, then it got a layer of plaster, then some squiggles , then another layer of plaster, and then this cat, tree and birdy just came about. I like the textures I came up with and the handling of the colors on the cat. They make him look solid and monumental!

I am working on this new technique using gesso and acrylics.
Watermelons are considered to be the national fruits of Mexico (as they have the colors of the flag in them). Here is an example painted by Mexican muralist Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991). Tamayo's depictions of watermelons are famous all over the world.

New media

I am trying to combine gesso, acrylics, pastels and indian ink in this piece. Perhaps it is too busy as there are many things going on, but I am trying to get a feel for combining different medias on canvas. It is more of a test and try exercise than anything else.

Still-lifes "a la Mexicana"

Naturaleza Muerta ó Bodegón is the name for still-life in Spanish. There is a Latin-American tradition when it comes to creating still-lifes. The depictions might include: daily life objects, local fruits and foods. Colors tend to be brighter than in European paintings and sometimes artists go for the "faux-naive" effect. These are examples created by yours-truly. Next I will be working on a Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) piece as that time of the year is approaching.

Invitation to dinner

September in Mexico is known as "The Independence Month". Mexicans celebrate the independence from Spain on September 15th each year with dinners where there is plenty of spicy delicious food, mariachi music and tequila shots. This is an invitation I created using Illustrator.

Scottish Dance Logo

Have you ever practiced Scottish dancing? Recently I was asked to create a logo for the local association, so here it is. The mountain on the background of the logo symbolizes Mount Ventoux which is the most famous natural site in this region.
